The community of Rosamond, located just north of the Los Angeles County line in the County of Kern got its start in 1877 as a town site owned by the Southern Pacific Railroad.  Its primary industry at the time was mining and cattle.  This community and serves the need for many of the employees and enlisted at the Edwards Air Force Base.
